Last Updated: 1/2/2008

How To Apply for a VHDA Home Loan:

ArrowContact a VHDA Approved Lender:

Applications may be made through VHDA's statewide network of approved mortgage lenders. These lenders serve as Originating Agents for VHDA to provide you personal service. You may complete an application directly with any of these approved lenders. The lenders will provide you information on the various VHDA programs and will pre-qualify you so that you will know the approximate price range of homes to shop for. The lender will complete all necessary paperwork for loan approval and assist in the coordination of loan closing with your realtor and closing agent.

If you cannot locate a VHDA-lender in your area using our Lender Search feature or wish to contact VHDA directly, you may do so by calling 1-877-VHDA-123.

ArrowPreparation for Loan Application:

Being prepared for the loan application with the following information will reduce the time from loan application to approval.

  • Copy of current pay stub(s) - 30 days
  • Copies of all bank account statements - Current 2 months
  • Copies of previous three years' Federal Income Tax Returns
  • List of monthly debt obligations and account numbers (credit cards, student loans, car loans and installment accounts)
  • Check for credit report, appraisal and VHDA reservation fee (approximately $500.00)
  • Copies of divorce decree/separation agreement (if applicable)

ArrowSteps for Buying a Home:

Each buyer and transaction are somewhat unique; however, the process will generally follow the steps reflected below:

  1. Register for a Free VHDA Intro to Homeownership Class
(This free course is required for all borrowers in order to become eligible for VHDA loan programs.)
  2. Find a VHDA-approved lender and get pre-approved for your price range.
  3. Choose a real estate professional to help with your home search.
  4. Finalize your mortgage application with your pre-selected lender.
  5. Attend the loan closing with your attorney or closing agent.

Move into your new home!
